Everyone is horrified by the incidents that have happened in the capital city of France. It is by the far the biggest terror attack the nation has ever seen. This is Europe 2nd largest terror attack second to only the infamous Madrid train bombings. Latest reports suggest that over 129 people have been killed. ISIS claims responsibility for the attacks and states that they carried them out as retaliation to the aerial bombardment campaign carried out by France in Syria.
To those who aren't aware there were 3 points of attack that happened in the city. One was the Bataclan Concert hall, second were outside the Stade de France and the third on the city’s famous restaurants and cafes.
Any of these feel similar?
On 26th of November 2008 10 militants of LeT launched 12 coordinated attacks on the city of Mumbai resulting in the death of 164 people.
The disturbing thing to see here was that there were quite a lot of similarities that happened between both the incident
They are as follows;
1. Both targeted large landmarks;
In the case of Paris it was a National Stadium and in case of Mumbai it was the Taj Hotel. Both represent or are symbols of the elite class.
2. Both targeted places with large amount of concentrated populations that were sitting ducks;
In the case of Mumbai it was Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus vice-versa was the Bataclan Concert hall.
3.Both attacks have targeted cafes, restaurants.
Leopold café in Mumbai and Le Carillon and Le Petit Cambodge in Paris (Although there were many more).
4.Both attacks targeted Jewish establishments;
In the case of Paris it was Bataclan Theatre, which was owned by two Jewish brothers, Joel and Pascal Laloux as recently as September 2015(They gave it up because of the threats they had been receiving due to their open support for Israel). In case of Mumbai it Nariman house was targeted. The building was home to a Chabad house, a Jewish outreach centre run by Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, who owned the building since around 2006.
5.Both time the attackers were all prepared to die and not a hit and run sort of an attack (Fidayeen).
6.Although pretty trivial but both attacks were carried out during the night-time and the assailants were in their youngsters in their 20’s.
7.Both times the attackers’ preferred weapon of choice had been the infamous AK-47 along with ample use of hand grenades.
